Laser Tattoo Removal

tattoo-baMedlite® C3 Laser

Candela™ Alexandrite Laser

(used for green, aqua, and turquoise, which are the most difficult colors to remove)

With both of the above:

  • No scars
  • Painless treatments
  • Removes all colors.

We've all been impulsive at one time or another, only to later regret it. A tattoo that was once the height of fashion can often become an embarrassment. But you don't have to live with an unwanted tattoo for the rest of your life.

We have a painless laser procedure with which we can remove most tattoos in 3 to 7 sessions.  We are also able to avoid scarring, and pigment changes are usually temporary.  Amateur tattoos are the easiest and require fewer sessions, whereas professional tattoos require more sessions.

Tattoo lasers are Q-switched, meaning that they produce thousands of short, powerful bursts of light per second to break up the packets of tattoo pigment into smaller particles.  The macrophages (scavenger white blood cells that roam around through the tissue like little “Pacmen”) carry away the smaller particles of pigment for elimination by way of the lymphatic system.

Intervals of 6 to 8 weeks are allowed between sessions in order to allow time for the pigment residue to be absorbed by the lymphatic system.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How does the laser remove the tattoo?
The laser works by selectively targeting the pigment of the tattoo without damaging the surrounding skin. The lymphatic system of the body then absorbs the pigment residue. There is no surgical scarring, and discomfort is minimal or absent.

How Many Sessions Are Needed?
Laser tattoo removal usually requires approximately three to eight sessions, depending on the color and type of ink. On the average, professional tattoos require six to eight treatments, while amateur tattoos require four to five treatments.  The number of treatments depends on the amount and type of ink  use, and the depth of the ink in the skin.

Intervals of at least three to six weeks are allowed between sessions in order to allow time for the pigment residue to be absorbed by the lymphatic system.

What type of tattoos can be removed?
The lasers can remove professional, amateur, traumatic, and surgical tattoos.  All colors can be removed.

Does the laser remove colored tattoos?
Dark (blue, black) and red inks will resolve the best.  Oranges and purples usually fade as well.  Green, turquoise, and aqua inks require more sessions and are treated with the Alexandrite Laser because it does a superior job of removing them.

Will the tattoo completely disappear?
In many cases, yes.  More than 95% fading of the tattoo may be accomplished.  However, it is important to know that there are many, many types of tattoo inks in use worldwide today, none of which are regulated by the FDA.  Not knowing which tattoo ink was used, or how deeply it was applied, makes it impossible for the physician to predict the degree of removal on any given tattoo.

Is the process painful?
The laser emits light in very short pulses.  The impact of the energy from the power pulse of light is similar to the snap of a thin rubber band.

What type of post-treatment care is necessary?
Usually, an antibacterial ointment and a dressing will be applied to the area immediately after treatment.  The treatment area should be kept clean with a continued application of any ointment given to you by your physician.  A shower can be taken the next day, although the treated are should not be scrubbed.
